Folsom Penitentiary, California: Folsom, California - A prison guard and two convicts were slain. Warden Clarence A. Larkin was believed fatally stabbed and two guards and five prisoners wounded in the most sensational prison break attempt at Folsom Penitentiary since the bloody riot Thanksgiving Day, 1927. The ringleader slain in the desperate escape bid, was Clyde Stevens, parole violator who smuggled the guns used in the sensational San Quentin prison break of January 16, 1935, in which Warden James B. Holohan was wounded and four directors kidnapped.

Photo is dated 1937.
