About
Preserving Photography. Preserving History.
Since 2009, Historic Images has helped the world preserve historic photography. We currently offer the world's largest collection of archival newspaper photos available to the public. Each of these photos is a relic from the 20th century, documenting everything from small-town memories to the moments that shaped our entire world.
As the newspaper industry shifted online in the early 2000's, these photos began collecting dust in basements. Archival experts could no longer be supported with new business models, and these critical pieces of our history are in danger of being lost forever. Our team seeks out these lost collections from newspapers, magazines, media outlets, and photographers. We want to preserve this beautiful artistic medium, keep the history it represents alive, and make the photos accessible to everyone.
You're able to purchase these photos as collectibles — we do not own the rights to many of the images in our collection and cannot reproduce them. That means many of the photos in our archive are one-of-a-kind, and you'll truly be able to take home a unique piece of history.
press photography and why it matters
Press photography emerged alongside modern newspapers in the early 1900s.
Photojournalists documented wars, elections, sports, entertainment, science, and everyday life. These photographs became visual proof of history as it happened.
Unlike modern digital images, press photographs are physical artifacts.
Press photography often includes:
- Typewritten captions
- Newspaper clippings
- Editorial markings
- Agency stamps
Together, these details create a complete historical record.
Many newspaper archives no longer have the space or resources to maintain physical collections.
As a result, millions of historic photographs have already been lost.
Historic Images works to ensure these collections survive — and remain accessible.
