Description
Leopards. Chicago, Illinois "Snowball", a 12-year-old male leopard was killed today defending his mate "Diane" when five lions were accidentally driven into a cage with the leopards. The lions were let into the leopard's cage from an outside grotto for feeding, and before keepers could rectify the error a five minute battle had raged and "Snowball" had been killed. When the lions were finally driven from the cage "Snowball's" mate was found to be unharmed. The lions' keeper, Cecil Aldridge of Forest Park, Illinois, when questioned as to why he had not observed the leopard before he let the lions into the cage said: "I just didn't look!"

Photo is dated 1955.

Photo measures 9.25 x 7 inches.
