Mac Arthur, Douglas II (United States Ambassador to Japan). Washington, DC. Douglas MacArthur II, nephew and namesake of the General who crushed Japan's military might and then rebuilt its peacetime economy, was named United States Ambassador to Japan today. The 47-year-old State Department Counsellor, shown in his office, will replace Ambassador John M. Allison, whose resignation was accepted by President Eisenhower today.
