1966 Press Photo Cannon used to collect atmospheric data on Barbados Island

Guns - Artillery (To collect information on wind velocities. etc). A 120-foot cannon, weighing 400,000 pounds, will be used by the Martin Company, to launch a payload into the atmosphere for collecting information on wind velocities and electrical fields. The cannon, located at Barbados Island, West Indies, was built at McGill University in Canada.
