Description
Alaska Highway - New York - To defend Alaska from possible enemy invasion, four different routes have been proposed and are indicated by the dotted lines on the above map. Ottawa and Washington military authorities are said to favor a route which would connect Alaska with the industrial east. Such a highway would pass via Edmonton, Great Slave Lake and Norman Oil Fields, west of Great Bear Lake. Because of the additional supplies available from the oil fields near Edmonton and Calgary, this Alberta Road would be "self-fueling." Also, it would enable huge stores of gasoline and fuel oils to be poured into Alaska either by road to Nome or by way of the Yukon River, which is navigable as far as Stewart
