Twining, Nathan F. (General). Washington. General Nathan F. Twining, right, today was nominated by President Eisenhower to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, succeeding Admiral Arthur W. Radford, second from right. General Thomas D. White, left, now Air Force vice chief of staff, was named chief of staff, succeeding Twining. Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, second from left, was nominated for a new two-year term as chief of naval operations.
