World War II - Solomons (Bougainville) - To supplement Army food rations, engineers of the 37th Division have planted a vegetable garden in the Empress Augusta Bay area on Bougainville. It is made up of four or five acres hacked out of the jungle and is planted with a large variety of vegetables. Note foxhole in foreground.
