1967 Press Photo Astronaut Gus Grissom and wife Betty with their children in TX

Grissom, Gus (And Family) (Astronaut). This is the Grissom family in its last formal portrait, taken just before Christmas. These were hectic days of final preparation for the Apollo I launching and Grissom told photographer Del Borer, "it's nice to be home with the gang." With Gus are his wife Betty, his high school sweetheart from Mitchell, Indiana. They had their first date together when she was 14. He was the only boy she ever dated. The boys are Scott, 16, and Mark, 13. The picture was taken in the Grissom home near Houston, adjacent to the Manned Spacecraft Center.
