Balloons - General. Minneapolis, Minnesota. Photo of balloon similar to balloon that broke altitude record by soaring to 143,000 feet. Photo was taken from the gondola in the air. The record flight was conducted by the University of Minnesota in conjunction with the Office of Naval Research, sponsored jointly by the Army Navy and Air Force. The former record was 125,000 feet.
