Bombs - Atomic - Committee. Washington, D.C. Chairman Brien McMahon, of Connecticut, called his Senate Atomic Energy Committee into secret session today to study the effectiveness of the 1917 Espionage Act as it would apply to protection of America's atomic bomb production. Major General Leslie R. Groves, who directed the atomic bomb project, testified before the committee today. Photo shows, left to right: Senator Brien McMahon, of Connecticut, Senator Arthur H. Vanderberg, of Michigan, committee member; James McInerney, chief of the justice department espionage section, another witness called by the committee; Major General Leslie R. Grovers, who directed the atomic bomb project.
