Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Australia ("Puffing Billy" Train). Crossing a spectacular horse-shoe trestle bridge is "Puffing Billy"; a quaint narrow gauge steam train still running regularly into the Dandenong mountains, from Belgrave, about 30 km east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The Puffing Billy Preservation Society has been operating the train on an 11 km track from Belgrave to Emerald since the early 1960s. It is the only remaining example of 4 experimental narrow gauge railways used to develop rural centres at the turn of the century.

Photo is dated 1977.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
