1949 Press Photo Holy Trinity Protestant Episcopal Church Rector John H. Melish

The Diocese of Long Island has ordered the removal of the Reverend John Howard Melish as rector of Holy Trinity Protestant Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. The church vestry as assailed the "outside activities" of his son, the church's assistant rector, who heads the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship. The organization has been cited by Attorney General Tom Clark as subversive.
