1941 Press Photo the Cleveland "Plain Dealer" General Manager John S. McCarrens

Newspaperman shot Cleveland - John S. McCarrens, 73, general manager of the Cleveland "Plain Dealer," was shot in his office late today by an unidentified man who then turned the gun on himself. McCarrens (above), shot through both wrists and with a bullet in his abdomen, was taken to the hospital where his condition was described as "not critical." The assailant, described as a "crazed man," shot himself in the temple, perhaps fatally. On his person was found an employment card bearing the name Herbert S. Krobrak with a Cleveland address.
