In a personalal decision that would meet with the wholehearted approval of the daytime serial character she portrays, Mercedes McCambridge, lead of "Big Sister," announced this week that she would give up her career the end of this month to go to Haiti with her author-husband, John Fifield. Miss McCambridge has been acting in radio for nine years, during which time she has covered all air waves, both daytime and nighttime. In recent years her income has spiraled into the $25,000-$30,000 annual bracket. But to Mercedes, the family is more important than the funds, and February will find Mercedes, her husband, and five-year-old son, John, San Juan bound.
