Description
The Southern Newspaper Publishers Association in the second of its three-day convention here today, elected its officers for the year and was warned that a direct appeal to Congress may be necessary to relieve the newsprint shortage. Clarence B. Hanson Jr., of the Birmingham News and Age-Herald, told the members that the southern press must look for aid from Congress for enough newsprint to publish an informative newspaper. In an earlier session, the members had gone on record as in favor of a proposal to have Office of Public Affairs decontrol newsprint prices.

Photo is dated 1946.
