McCone, 56-year-old Los Angeles businessman and engineer named to Atomic Energy Commissioner by President Eisenhower, is shown here today as he was en route to Potsdam, N.Y., to receive an honorary degree at Clarkson College of Technology Sunday. He will succeed Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of five-man AEC who is leaving when his term expires June 30. McCone served as a high Pentagon official during the Truman Administration.
