As Lewis called off coal strike Washington, D.C. . . . Looking less grim than he has looked since the beginning of the current walk-out of his United Mine Workers, John L. Lewis is shown in UMW headquarters today as he told a press conference that he had called off the strike and ordered the miners back to work immediately. The mine leader told the newsmen that he was taking this action pending consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court of the government-union legal action.
