1958 Press Photo Air Force Reserve Colonel Barry Goldwater at Preflight Briefing

A briefing for the Senator - Senator Barry Goldwater gets a preflight briefing from R.L. Matyo, a Lockheed test pilot just before the Arizona lawmaker flew an F104B Starfighter jet at California's Palmdale Airport in 1958. Goldwater, then a colonel in the Air Force Reserve, flew faster than sound at an altitude of 40,000 feet.
