1964: Rain greets GOP nominee in New Orleans The rain fell on U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona, the GOP nominee for president, as he was photographed by Times-Picayune photographer Pat Patterson shortly after his arrival at Moisant International Airport on September 17, 1964. Goldwater, who was hoping to defeat incumbent Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson in the November general election, accused the administration of "whitewashing" government issues during a speech later in the day at Tulane Stadium. The crowd was estimated between 25,000 and 30,000.

Photo is dated 1964.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
