"Purgees" defeat neutrality revision Washington, D.C. - The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on July 11th voted to postpone consideration of the neutrality legislation until the next session of Congress. Senator Walter F. George, a Democrat of Georgia, (left) and Senator Guy M. Gillette, also a Democrat of Iowa (right), victims of the President's attempted "purge" in 1938, who were responsible for the blow to the administration's hope of repealing the existing arms embargo, are pictured above following their victory.
