Description
Governor Thomas Dewey talks to reporters in his Capitol office after current issue of Life magazine revealed article by John Chamberlain, which stated that he (Dewey) had information that FDR knew of imminence of a Japanese attack some time before Pearl Harbor. Patriotic motives and respect for General George C. Marshall, Chief of Staff, who had informed Dewey that Japanese were not then aware that U.S. experts had cracked their diplomatic code, prevented the Governor from using his knowledge as a "weapon" during 1944 Presidential campaign. Dewey declined to answer questions concerning the Chamberlain article but did state that he would testify before a Congressional Committee in the event that he was requested to do so.
