"This is something I have always wanted to do," Tennessee Ernie Ford said of his upcoming PBS special "That Great American Gospel Sound." "I've never done a purely gospel show until now. And I consider this to be the best TV show I've ever done." Tennessee Ernie Ford sent word that he would be detained. He asked one of his aides to show me a tape of his musical special. I watched about 15 minutes of it before the star arrived. We sat together, without speaking, and watched most of the rest of the show. Ford was not busy when I first arrived. He was using an honorable ploy to get me to see the show we were supposed to discuss. And I am glad he did I was completely engrossed in every aspect of the special, not just by Ford's participation, which is extensive, of course.
