1958 Press Photo Ron Delany speeds across Finish Line and Officials track Time

All alone at the finish, Villanova's great miler, Ron Delany, speeds across the line while official timers strain to stop their watches at the precise moment. They agreed on 4:03.4 which beat the old record, held by Denmark's Gunnar Nielsen, by two full seconds. The event was the bankers mile at the International Amphitheater in Chicago Friday night.
