New Orleans - Thrice successfully operated Bonnet Carre Spillway is pictured as it poured Mississippi River waters into Lake Pontchartrain during 1950. The huge safety valve is opened by the Engineers when the Weather Bureau predicts a gage at New Orleans in excess of 20 feet. Completed in 1935, the structure was used in 1937, 1945 and 1950.
