Carl Carmer, author of the classic 'Stars Fell on Alabama" and recipient of critics' raves as the "foremost reporter-writer...etc..." was fired from a New Orleans newspaper 12 years ago because "he could never be a reporter." Carmer, arriving in New Orleans Sunday morning aboard the river steamer Gordon Greene, recalled his "bounce" with a laugh, but sadly admitted that he didn't feel up to facing his former city editor with a sneering "haw-haw" as he would have liked at one time. Carmer was accompanied by his wife, the former Elizabeth Black of New Orleans, and Walt Sanders, photographer for Life magazine, with whom he is collaborating on a feature about the old river steamer trips.

Photo is dated 1940.

Photo measures 7 x 9 inches.
