1957 Press Photo New Orleans - Police Stand by as Bamboo Cut on Bamboo Street

New Orleans - A New Orleans policeman (arrow) stands by, powerless to act, today as a crew of workers employed by the Jefferson parish police jury begin cutting down the strip of bamboo which separates Bamboo Road and the 17th Street Canal. Later the workmen were called off until Monday on the plea of property owners who hope to persuade officials to spare the bamboo.
