Description
Dr. Stan Bergman, chief of the research development of the Royal Swedish Fortification Corp, explains in Swedish the new technique Palmer and Baker, Inc., engineers for the project, used in laying an interior walls of the Belle Chasse tunnel. At right, with his hand on the ceramic tile is one of the men who helped develop a time-saving process, George Lewis, resident engineer. Brig. Gen. Kjell Magnell, chief of the Corps, and Sven Askling, Swedish engineer for Palmer and Baker, are interested listeners. The world's first two fully-automatic underwater vehicular tunnels, under construction at Harvey in Jefferson Parish and Belle Chasse in Plaquemines, are attracting international delegates to this area. The latest was a group from Sweden that visited the tunnels recently in search of new techniques to be used in the construction of a tunnel in that country.
