1955 Press Photo "Mr. Charlie," the first mobile self-contained drilling barge

"Mr. Charlie," the first mobile self-contained drilling barge in the Louisiana Gulf Coast area capable of operating offshore in water depths greater than 20 feet, is proving its worth after six months of operation. Built by Alexander Shipyard Inc., the barge has been drilling in the Gulf for the Shell Oil Co. It has drilled a total of six wells.
