USSR craft that soft landed on Venus The Soviet Union announced Tuesday that its Venus spacecraft - shown in this diagram released by the Soviet news agency Tass - made a soft landing on the planet and transmitted data back to earth for 23 minutes. The spacecraft was hurtled into Venus' atmosphere on December 15.
