1973 Press Photo Libyans Petition Egypt's Anwar Sadat for Egypt-Libya Merger

Accepting a petition said to be "written in blood" Saturday night is Egypt's President Anwar Sadat. A delegation of Libyans representing thousands of their countrymen presented the petition but failed to complete the march to Cairo in an effort to urge Egypt to unite with Libya. A communique issued after Sadat met briefly with the Libyans said the merger, scheduled for September 1, "has practically been proclaimed."
