This bug-eyed monster north of the Manasota public beach is an example of sea life killed by the red tide. Other dead ones noted by bathers included trout, pink fish, eels, catfish, mullet and red snapper. The current red tide outbreak began a few weeks ago and still continues to deposit fish along the lower Gulf Coast beaches. A ban on harvesting shellfish is in effect in Pinellas County.

Photo is dated 1971.

Photo measures 8 x 7.75 inches.
