A new desulfurization reactor at Philips Petroleum Co., Texas. As part of a major expansion of its Sweeny, Texas, refinery, Philips Petroleum Company recently installed this and five other resid desulfurization reactors. The reactors, which remove sulfur and impurities from crude oil before catalytic cracking, are each 45 feet by 14 feet, have walls 12 inches thick and weigh more than 660 tons. Start-up of the new facilities is forecast for mid-1980.
