1962 Press Photo French Premier Georges Pompidou arrives at Elysee Palace

Georges Pompidou, appointed to succeed Michel Debre as premier of France, smiles as he arrives at Elysee Palace in Paris today. Pompidou, veteran de Gaulle advisor and director general of the Rothschild bank in Paris, already has started consultations to line up his list of ministers. Debre said he resigned because he was tired by the strain of office.
