Soviet-born Jew Leonid Rigerman speaks to the press, New York. Leonid RIgerman, Soviet-born Jew who won U.S. citizenship in December, tells a press conference in New York City Sunday that the Soviet government tried to prevent Jews from leaving the country because they were "intellectual assets" and the country's leaders "want the slaves to work." Rigerman, who was finally allowed to leave the Soviet Union, said the desire of Jews to leave Russia for Israel could not be extinguished.
