1961 Press Photo USAF Blue Scout Jr. roars from Cape Canaveral launch pad

Description
An Air Force Blue Scout Jr., rocket roars away from the launch pad in an attempt to loft a 27-pound package of radiation measuring instruments toward an apogee of 140,000 statue miles. Flight time of the package, while telemetering measurement of electron and proton density in space to ground receiving stations of the Atlantic Missile Range is expected to be 114 hours. It will take the package approximately 57 hours to reach its peak altitude over the South Pacific Ocean. It will burn up as it re-enters the atmosphere.
