1971 Press Photo Victim of savage attack Jose Romera arrested on DUI charge

Jose Romera Raya arrives at the Yuba County Courthouse in Marysville today to face a drunk driving charge. Sutter County Sheriff Roy Whiteaker has released a report linking accused slayer Juan Corona to a savage assault with a meat cleaver in which Raya was the victim. Raya obtained a $250,000 default civil judgement in Superior Court against Corona's brother Natividad as a result of the assault. Here Raya covers the left side of his face which is severely disfigured as a result of the attack.
