Ex-Communist Al Richmond, who recently quit the party in a dispute over freedom, tells an interviewer in San Francisco he believes American Communism must allow democracy, debate and dissent. The former editor of the People's World newspaper says a free flow of ideas is essential if the party is to capitalize on dissent spawned by Watergate, the Vietnam War and Pentagon Papers.
