1960 Press Photo King Mohammed V and other leaders at Egypt's Aswan High Dam

President Nasser, center, of Egypt and the United Arab Republic, hands pen to King Mohammed V of Morocco so the king can sign book which was placed into the cornerstone of the Aswan High Dam at ceremonies marking the start of the project today. Nasser took the occasion to publicly thank the Soviet Union for financing the first stage of the billion-dollar hydroelectric-irrigation project after the United States and Great Britain had withdrawn their support.
