1965 Press Photo Representative Oren Harris announces resignation from Congress

Representative Oren Harris, D-AR, displays his commission to a federal judgeship at a news conference here today. Harris announced he will resign from Congress and take the new post next February 3. President Johnson nominated Harris last August for a long-vacant Arkansas district judgeship, and the Senate quickly confirmed it. Explaining the delay, Harris said that "to be perfectly frank, there h as been a problem in our state with reference to a special election for my successor."
