Prague police march to disperse crowd at base of St. Wenceslas statue yesterday as Czechoslovakia observed its first May Day under Soviet occupation. The statue of the 10th century king of Bohemia, right, has become a shrine to young Czechs killed in the Soviet invasion last August and a symbol of resistance to the Russian occupation.

Photo is dated 1969.
