Description
Washington. Secretary of Commerce Frederick E. Mueller, poses today after making public a letter he wrote to Senator William Proxmire (D-WI). The Secretary accused the senator of unfairly twisting the truth in challenging a furniture buying deal between the State Department and his son, Frederick E. Mueller. Proxmire charged on Monday that the Department acted improperly in buying $89,400 worth of furniture from the son. Secretary Mueller said the record shows that his son and the Department "conducted their affairs in a proper manner and in the public interest."
