1960 Press Photo Mason boys pound paddles to level floors and roofs in Dacca

It's all work and no play for these youngsters who pound their hand paddles and sing to a violin tune in Dacca, East Pakistan. The children are Mason Boys, a common sight at all Pakistan construction projects, where their job is to make floors and roofs completely level by pounding down bumps and filling in depressions. Also called "Levelling Boys." They are serenaded by the head mason in the belief that music helps them work faster and harder. Children like these make up a good part of Pakistan's labor force.
