Roland Paul is a former special assistant to the general counsel at the Pentagon, now a member of the New York law firm of Simpson, Thatcher and Bartlett, in whose offices he is pictured. During the Congress recently ended he worked as investigator for a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, whose role has been changing from that of unquestioning advocate to "truly independent critical" judge of the executive branch's policies and programs. The Committee now dispatches its staff around the world, to gather its own information from which to draw its own conclusions.
