1972 Press Photo Dr. Wheeler North of CIT examines seaweed as nutritional source

Dr. Wheeler J. North, a biologist at California Institute of Technology examines a piece of seaweed while discussing it as a potential source of nutrition. North, who's spent the past 15 years studying and restoring California kelp beds, doesn't believe seaweed has much future as food because it's low in protein and its carbohydrates are generally indigestible by human beings.
