The Polish river town today looks much like it did when Senator Barry Goldwater's ancestors are said to have lived here in the 19th century. According to United States biographical data, Goldwater's grandfather, an itinerant Jewish peddler named Michael Goldwasser, emigrated to the United States from Poland in 1848.
