Albert Pass, 52, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, is escorted handcuffed from the Erie County (PA) Prison early Monday to the courthouse where jury selection in his murder trial was to begin. Pass is the highest ranking United Mine Workers official to be charged thus far in the December 1969, slaying of UMW rebel Joseph Yablonski and his wife and daughter. Pass is a former member of the union's policy-making International Executive Board and was secretary-treasurer of UMW District 19 in the Tennessee-Kentucky region.
