1961 Press Photo Lord Stansgate stands outside House of Commons in London

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Lord Stansgate, who prefers to call himself by the common name of Anthony Wedgewood Benn, holds aloft election certificate as he stands outside House of Commons in London Monday with wife, Caroline, left, and son, Stephen, 9, center. Lord Stansgate was refused admittance to the House of Commons although he was re-elected to Parliament by his Bristol constituents last week. He later sat in public gallery. Last month, the Commons accepted that the peer, as the second Viscount Stansgate, could not continue as one of its members. Stansgate wants to renounce title to remain in Commons, but has been unsuccessful thus far.

Photo is dated 1961.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
