A spreading oil slick eludes flotation booms that could only be applied after the tanker Esso Gettysburg was tied up here Saturday, after she struck bottom 2 1/2 miles away in New Haven Harbor.A slick 3 1/2 miles long escaped the booms and headed for Long Island Sound.
