1970 Press Photo Honorary Lifer, Chris Regano with Wallkill Santa Claus in NY

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Chris Regano, 7, of Queens, New York looks up at Santa Claus--an inmate of the Wallkill, New York Correctional Facility--as he was made an "Honorary Lifer" at a Christmas party inside the prison walls Monday. Chris is not a "lifer" in the usual prison jargon however, his title comes from the fact that inmates hearing of his plight as a hemophiliac, donated 126 pints of blood to help keep young Chris alive. He needs about 500 pints per year to stay alive.

Photo is dated 1970.

Photo measures 8 x 11 inches.
